So where do Bed Bugs come from? 


It is believed that the main reasons why people have seen an uprising in bed bugs infestations are down to:


• Global travel.

• Second hand furniture sales, and also you have probably seen the online forums where people are giving away free items such as an armchair or a wardrobe.


IMPORTANT to know that although they are called bed bugs they do not just live in beds!


They can live in furniture, wardrobes, chairs, sofas, carpets, and any cracks and crevices.


Bed bug symptoms


Apart from discovering suspicious bites, there are some other signs that you might have a bed bug problem. Such as.


• Dark / black stains around your mattress and bed frame, particularly around the slats and joins in the frame.

• Small dark blood spots on your bedding.

• Live bed bugs on your furniture and skirting boards.


Some people have a very bad reaction to bed bug bites. They can be very itchy and there me be painful swelling.


A severe allergic reaction ( anaphylaxis) is also possible but rare.

How to treat bed bug bites

Bed bug bites usually clear up on their own in a week or so.


Things you can do include:

• Putting something cool, like a clean damp cloth, on the affected area to help with the itching and any swelling.

• Not scratching the bites to avoid them getting infected.

• Keeping the affected area clean.


You can ask your Pharmacist about:


• using a mild steroid cream like hydrocortisone cream to ease bed bug bites ( children under 10 and pregnant woman should get advice from a doctor before using hydrocortisone cream )

• antihistamines, these May help of the bites are very itchy and your unable to sleep.
