Signs of Squirrels in your home or property.

Sep 05, 2020

Squirrels are members of the family Sciuridae, a family that includes small- medium size rodents.

Have you heard something rustling in your loft?

As cute an appearance that squirrels may have, they can be an incredibly destructive and distressing pest to have in your home.

Grey squirrels Sciuris Carolinensis are invasive pests and are not native to the UK.

They were first introduced in to the UK from North America in the 1870s as ornamental additions to high class estates and country homes.

This continued until the 1930s when it was then realised the damage that they can cause and it became illegal to release grey squirrels in to the wild.

They usually live between 5-7 years.

Signs of Squirrels in your home or property.

• Scratching and rustling from your loft or wall cavity.

• The smell of urine in the loft area.

• Signs of droppings in your loft.

• Seeing lots of other squirrels around your property, particularly near your roof or on high fences.

• Bark being stripped from trees in your gaden.

• Fruit and nuts being stolen from your bird feeders, or the bird feeders being vandalised.

• Holes in your guttering boards.

Damage that squirrels can cause.

Squirrels often cause damage to a property, they gain entry mainly through the roof of a house often chewing through fascia ( gutter boards ) and once inside they have been known to chew through electrical cables and plumbing pipes.

We have recently had a case of a house that was left empty for 6 months, and the squirrels had got so comfortable living in there, that they had chewed through from the loft down through the bedroom ceiling and were living in the entire house.

Here at SW19 Pest Control Ltd we have a vast experience in removing squirrels from both Domestic and Commercial premises.
